Lava Labs is looking for a Network/Server Engineer to join our growing team in Nottingham, UK.

Reporting to the CTO, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the real-time server architecture and netcode for our upcoming title AFAR.


  • Define and execute the company's netcode strategy in collaboration with the CTO.
  • Work across games design and backend teams to gather and define requirements.
  • Play a leading role in defining the multiplayer architecture.
  • Work alongside our client team to develop & integrate multiplay into AFAR.
  • Keep up to date with the latest multiplayer technologies & feedback on if/how they can benefit Lava.
  • Identify, flag and find solutions to potential roadblocks.
  • Work closely with the CTO to define a rollout to production strategy for our multiplayer architecture.


  • Shipped network game experience.
  • Good working knowledge of network protocols such as Sockets, HTTP, WebSockets
  • Deep understanding of prediction models suitable for games.
  • Experience developing large scale distributed systems.
  • Be comfortable working in a Linux environment.


  • Monitoring and alerting in a production environment.
  • Client-side development experience.
  • Experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Lua or Javascript.
